Turning point in the S.U.N. story
It was the first year that a non-profit foundation managed the summer event. The visitors number was limited to 1 thousand people. Many of the promoted artists and program elements were cancelled to escape the disaster. In the hard situation the production company pulled out, and only a handful of people remained on the land.
Then others arrived to help in the big trouble, and finally the gathering was organized by a small group of devoted people. Finances were collected by crowd-funding or via other personal donations.
Nearly € 100.000 revenue was received out from the 1023 sold memberships, which amount could almost entirely cover the costs of the mini-festival. The small number of visitors made it very hard to manage the costs, so 17 thousand euro remained at the end, that we started to pay out from loans and membership upgrades. Finally the total annual costs reached € 116.000. The breakdown of expenses is displayed on the chart below (it is the final corrected version, the one that was sent out by the newsletter contained some production costs added to the promo costs. We are sorry for the mistake!)
We will always be grateful to the artists and participants who came for free!!!.
The ‘Solar United Natives’ trademark was registered to avoid what had happened with the S.U.N. Festival name. Then it was donated to the foundations, whom gave it back to the festival community. The original idea of a community festival will never be exposed again to dirty tricks of competitors, or anyone else’s egoistic intentions.
The S.U.N. was reborn again.
It’s more beautiful, then ever, although it is small. But everything starts to grow from small…. And not the size but the quality matters. Thank You for this magical new beginning!
